Energy Efficient Renovation

In a residential district of Vienna, a corner house from the late 19th century underwent a energy efficient renovation. With low-energy FTT/U U8 Thermo roof windows equipped with ARZ Z-Wave roller shutters residents save costs for heating and cooling and thus protect the climate.

The residential district Ottakring has recently become one of Vienna‘s Climate Alliance districts and is thus committed to comprehensive environmental and climate protection. This also includes the renovation of buildings, which account for 40% of emissions from the heating and cooling of buildings. The corner house, built in 1872 in Redtenbachergasse in Vienna Ottakring was thermally renovated to an energy-efficient, modern residential building with the subsidies from the State of Vienna. The thermal refurbishment includes façade insulation as well as window and door replacements. In addition, the attic was extended to two floors, an elevator and a ventilation system were.

Highest energy efficiency in the attic:
The aim for the architect was to achieve a consistently high quality of living with thermal refurbishment. The client‘s requirement for a full energy efficiency renovation in the attic was met with the ultra-energy-saving FAKRO FTT/U U8 Thermo roof windows. The FTT window with innovative structure en-sures excellent thermal insulation parameters and is currently the most energy-efficient roof window with a single glazing unit available on the market specially developed for passive houses. In combination with the thermally insulated EHV-AT or ESV-T flashing, the FTT/U U8 Thermo window achieves a heat transfer coefficient of Uw = 0.58 W/m2K. The electric ARZ roller shutter offers optimum protection against summer overheating and reduction of heat loss during winter. They reflect solar radiation and ensure that on hot, sunny days the heat into the living space is reduced. This ensures a pleasant room temperature all over the year.

Professional Renovation:
The technically sophisticated attic extension and refurbishment was met by Austrian timber construction company Fahrenberger. Specialized in renovations, the company extended the attic to two storeys and installed a full thermal insulation façade. Since Fahrenberger used FAKRO products for the first time, the installation of the energy-efficient windows and roller shutters was demonstrated by a FAKRO sales representative during a training session. The building was completed in autumn 2019 and offers 19 modern, bright apartments with fully equipped kitchens and daylight-flooded bathrooms.
Products Used:
26x FTT/U U8 Quadruple Glazed High Pivot Roof Window
