  • Consider ease of access and cleaning (inside and out!) Centre pivot windows make cleaning easy.
  • Consider your view – top hung and pivot windows give an unrestricted view at lower height than standard centre pivot windows

  • Better illumination for the space is achieved the higher the roof window is fitted from the floor.
  • The upper edge of the roof window must be at least 220cm from floor level.

  • If your windows will be above head height, then choosing a laminated glass is best. That way, if the glass shatters a plastic membrane between the 2 sheets of glass retain the shards.
  • Triple and quadruple glazing ensure exceptional thermal efficiency and can almost eliminate heat loss altogether.
  • Other glazing choices include; tinted, obscure, reflective and self cleaning glass.

  • Most roof windows are well suited for roof pitch between of between 15 and 90 degrees. However, the installation pitch range may differ for certain types of windows.
  • For flat roofs, you can choose between standard domed or non-domed designs.
  • To ensure the flow of water from the glass surface of non-domed windows, the windows should be installed with a pitch of at least 2 degrees.

  • A well-insulated roof can be let down by a poorly insulated window which will cause heat loss.
  • Standard double glazed windows with a thermally insulated glazing unit and flashing may suffice.
  • For increased performance, you should consider a highly-energy efficient roof window, specially designed and supplied with insulating flashing.

Pivot windows are the basic type of roof window and they ensure a flow of fresh air and allow light into the room. These windows open only in a centre pivot method and can be rotated through 180 degrees and this function is used when cleaning the outer pane or operating the awning blind. Centre pivot windows can be equipped with both external and internal accessories.

The axis of rotation is situated above the centre of the window, so even a tall person can easily walk up to the window edge. Window ensures a very good illumintion and provides a wide view to the outside. The lower part of the sash fulfils a top hung window function and the upper part of the sash is an additional source of daylight. The only window on the market when installed in roofs with pitches 39º- 43º satisfies the requirements of DIN 5034-1 standard, according to which the bottom window edge has to be situated 95cm above the floor level and the top minimum 220 cm. Window with raised axis of rotation opens in centre pivot method and can be locked for cleaning at 160 degrees. Window can be equipped with internal and external accessries.

There are two sashes placed in one frame of FDY-V window. The upper sash is opened like a pivot window but its axis of rotation is situated above the centre of the window. The lower sash is non-opening with external pane laminated. This window structure eliminates the need for vertical combinations, hence offering a very good illumination, ventilation and a very wide view to the outside.The only window on the market that when installed in roofs with pitches 30º-43º satisfies the requirements of DIN 5034-1 standard, which states that bottom window edge has to be situated 95cm above the floor level and the top minimum 220 cm.
The upper sash is opened in centre pivot function and is locked for cleaning at 160 degrees. The window can be equipped with internal and external accessories.

FAkro Top Hung and Pivot Windows

Top hung and pivot windows allow light and fresh air into the room, ensure unobstructed access to the window and a wide view to the outside through the open window.
They can be opened in two ways:
- the outward opening function from 0 to 35 degrees enables an easy approach to the window and a wide view
- the centre pivot function is used for cleaning and also operating the awning blind
- top hung windows can be equipped with external and internal accessories

The Panoramic and top hung windows, which are characterised by their larger dimensions, also allow light and fresh air into the room. The window opens to a wide angle and allows for access to the roof or for use as an emergency escape window.
These windows can be opened:
- outward opening function-opens to 40 degrees, enabling easy approach to the window and offering an unrestricted view.
- an additional outward opening function to 68 degrees. The large sizes of these windows and a wide sash-opening angle enable you to go out on the roof and also meet all emergency escape regulations.
- the centre pivot function is used for cleaning and also operating the awning blind. Panoramic top hung windows can be equipped with external and internal accessories.

Fakro Balcony Window

An innovative, large window whose sashes when opened create a balcony. The upper sash opens steplessly upwards up to 45°. The lower sash can be tilted forward. In order to close it the locks located by the rails of the frame have to released.
Side safety barriers are integrated into the bottom sash and slide out during opening. When closing the the lower sash, balcony rails hide inside the window and are not visible above the roof surface. The window is operated by the handle located at the bottom of the upper sash.
The window features a multi-point locking system, without a traditional locking assembly. After turning the handle, the sash is locked at two sides of the frame.

Fakro L-Shaped Combination Windows

The L-shaped combination windows are installed where the roof meets a vertical wall. These windows serve to extend the roof window into the wall. This results in the amount of light entering the room and the field of view being greatly increased. The L-shaped combination windows can be opened in tilt and turn (BD_) and in tilt (BVP) mode. BXL is non-opening window. The L-shaped windows can be equipped with internal accessories.

Fakro Side Hung Escape Window

The side hung window enables safe and easy access to the roof and also acts as an escape window. A mechanism fitted in the top part of the window makes opening easier, holds the sash stable when opened and prevents it slamming shut accidentally. It increases the amount of light and allows fresh air into the room. The escape window is available in two versions, right opening (FWR) or left opening (FWL); the sash can be opened to 90 degrees. Side hung escape windows can be equipped with internal accessories the same as other roof windows.
